Mugging victim thwarted with milk crate

A 31-year-old man has been charged with assault after allegedly using a milk crate to help a woman steal a mobile phone from a man in inner Sydney.

Police say the 20-year-old victim was talking on his mobile phone on Oxford Street yesterday afternoon, when a woman knocked the phone from his hand and walked off with it.

The man told police he was hit in the head by another man with a milk crate when he tried to get his phone back.

He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital for a cut to his head and was later released.

Police are still looking for the woman involved.
